North by Northwest review

North by Northwest movie review

North by northwest is an Alfred Hitchcock movie released in 1959. It contains mystery, thriller and a little romance starring Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint and James Mason. North by Northwest is about a mistaken business man on a mad dash for survival and justice from a group of foreign spies.

My favourite part of the movie was the beginning/intro because of the way that Alfred Hitchcock opened the movie. It was very detailed and not too rushed, in my opinion. Every last detail was essential to the movie either right away or later along in the movie.

My least favourite part in North by Northwest was when Roger Thornhill is waiting at the rendezvous by the bus stop thinking he is going to get an explanation for why he is being chased, but is actually waiting at a setup to get killed. I didn’t really like this scene because I felt that the foreign spies could have thought of a more practical way to try to kill Roger then to use a plane. I think a better method could have been to simply have one the spies come in person to try and kill Roger because he was at the meeting place completely alone, not including the almost nonexistent number of cars that drive by, without any weapons and without a car to escape. Although I am glad that the foreign spies didn’t manage to get the job done after all, and Roger was left unharmed.

All in all, I did enjoy North by Northwest quite a bit. It was suspenseful until the end, as well as very entertaining.

4/5 stars
