Citizen Kane movie review

Citizen Kane movie review

Citizen Kane is a black and white drama mystery. It was released in 1941 directed by and starring Orson Welles. Along Orson Welles, Citizen Kane stars Joseph Cotton and Dorothy Comingore. Citizen Kane is about the death of a tycoon and the pursuit to figure out the meaning of his last words.

I enjoyed watching this movie because it was suspenseful all the way thru because of wanted to figure out what the meaning behind Kane’s last words was.
Citizen Kane was an interesting movie to watch because of the missing details which would be revealed at the end.

If I could change anything about Citizen Kane it would be to have it a little shorter. Although cutting the movie might rid of important and/or hidden details, shortening the movie could be to simply cut the scenes quickly instead of letting them slowly fade out. Other then this case, I felt the movie was really well done.

Citizen Kane is a movie that could be enjoyed by adults and young adults alike. I would not recommend this movie to a younger audience because some of the scenes may be too frightening or intense due to the depressing atmosphere. Overall I recommend Citizen Kane because of the drama and suspense, and to those who enjoy a good mystery and a great classic.

North by Northwest review

North by Northwest movie review

North by northwest is an Alfred Hitchcock movie released in 1959. It contains mystery, thriller and a little romance starring Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint and James Mason. North by Northwest is about a mistaken business man on a mad dash for survival and justice from a group of foreign spies.

My favourite part of the movie was the beginning/intro because of the way that Alfred Hitchcock opened the movie. It was very detailed and not too rushed, in my opinion. Every last detail was essential to the movie either right away or later along in the movie.

My least favourite part in North by Northwest was when Roger Thornhill is waiting at the rendezvous by the bus stop thinking he is going to get an explanation for why he is being chased, but is actually waiting at a setup to get killed. I didn’t really like this scene because I felt that the foreign spies could have thought of a more practical way to try to kill Roger then to use a plane. I think a better method could have been to simply have one the spies come in person to try and kill Roger because he was at the meeting place completely alone, not including the almost nonexistent number of cars that drive by, without any weapons and without a car to escape. Although I am glad that the foreign spies didn’t manage to get the job done after all, and Roger was left unharmed.

All in all, I did enjoy North by Northwest quite a bit. It was suspenseful until the end, as well as very entertaining.

Singin' in the Rain movie review

Singin' in the Rain movie review

Singin' in the Rain is a 1952's comedic musical romance directed by Stanley Donen and Gene Kelly. It is a production of MGM that stars Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor and Debbie Reynolds. Singin' in the Rain is about a silent film production company that makes a transition to sound so they can keep up with the film industry.

I really liked the plot of this movie which had a main focus on how stressful, competitive and demanding the transition from silent film to film with sound can be.
I enjoyed watching Singin’ in the Rain because it was continuously entertaining especially the way all the characters, love them or hate them, were portrayed thru-out. My favourite character is Cosmo Brown. Because of his comedic acting and enthusiastic grins, his presence brings a light and happy mood to the film. He is a helping personality and a really good friend to old time pal to Don Lockwood helping and encouraging him with his career.

Although I really enjoyed all the musical sequins, my favourite scene in the film was the ending scene where Kathy is finally revealed to be the real voice. I liked this scene because it shows Lina finally get what she had coming after treating Kathy so rudely and using Kathy’s talents for herself. After being discovered Kathy and Don are happy together where as justice is being rightfully served to Lina. Lina being solely a silent movie star is lost now that film has advanced to film with sound.

Overall I really liked Singin’ in the Rain because of its musical qualities and extensive details. I felt that the main idea being a transition form silent film to film with sound was very clever. Singin’ in the Rain is a memorable film that can be seen plenty of times and still be enjoyable. It is a great musical that has been remembered for years and years and will be remembered for years to come.
